Benefits Of Walking - Whygetter

Being an aerobic exercise, there is nothing not to like about walking. Walking does a lot for our heart and overall health, making us live longer, and wards off obesity. Study author Sanjay Sharma, professor of inherited cardiac diseases in sports cardiology at St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London, told The Independent:
“We may never avoid becoming completely old, but we may delay the time we become old. We may look younger when we’re 70 and may live into our nineties. Exercise buys you three to seven additional years of life. It is an antidepressant, it improves cognitive function, and there is now evidence that it may retard the onset of dementia.”

Why You Should Walk Regularly

More than 2,400 years ago, Hippocrates said, "Walking is a man's best medicine.
There are various health benefits of a regular stroll. Its advisable to take a walk for up to an hour or more a day for the following reasons;

Walking Slows Aging Process

It is very much possible to be 60 and look 40. What is the secret? WALKING.

It is impossible to be sitted while walking. Various occupations requires workers to be sitted for 8 to 12 hours a day, which is very disastrous to our health. Sitting for very long hours  increases our risk of type 2 diabetes,  high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

Research out of the University of Michigan Medical School and the Veterans Administration Ann Arbor Healthcare System says those who exercise regularly in their fifties and sixties are 35 percent less likely to die over the next eight years than their non-walking counterparts.

Reduce Risk Of Heart Disease (CVD) And Stroke By Walking Regularly

As mentioned above, sitting for very long hours  increases our risk of type 2 diabetes,  high blood pressure, high cholesterol; and according to a new study conducted at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Life Science Division in Berkley, Calif, all three conditions are risk factors for heart disease and stroke.

Another study found that daily walking reduced the risk of stroke in men over the age of 60. Walking for up to 1 to 2 hours a day reduces risks of the afore mentioned conditions including cancer, and it could also cut a man’s stroke risk by as much as one-third.

Walking is the first step to cardiovascular disease prevention!
Observational studies suggest that walking for longer duration or distance may confer incremental protection against CVD and appears to have CVD-related health benefits in younger, middle, and older men and women, in both healthy and patient populations.

Walking Reduces Belly Fat,Cholesterol And Aids Weight Loss

"Vigorous exercise raises levels of fat-burning hormones," says lead researcher Arthur Weltman, PhD, director of the exercise physiology laboratory at the university of Virginia.
Belly fat that wraps around internal organs such as the kidneys and liver have been discovered to be associated with high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.

Walking an our or more a day helps increase the production of fat burning hormones which burns excess belly fat and those around our internal body organs, keeping us healthy and helping us loose weight at the same time.

Less body fat is "associated with lower levels of the "bad" LDL cholesterol," wrote Cooper.
Your blood cholesterol levels are crucial because they affect your heart-disease risk. "For every 1 percent drop in blood cholesterol, studies show a 2 percent decrease in the likelihood of a heart attack," according to "An Invitation to Health," a textbook for college students. Lower bad cholesterol levels after six to 12 months of aerobic exercise, including walking, can "mean as much as a 30 percent reduction in the risk of coronary artery disease," according to "Essentials for Health and Wellness," a college textbook.

Walking Reduses Stress

According to the Huffington Post, walking improves the production of Stress-Busting Endorphins and also shifts to brain to a calmer state, boosts energy and reduces fatigue, leading to lower stress levels.

Daily walks activates soothing neurons in the brain which help dull the feelings of stress, anxiety and depression.

Do yourself a favor, skip going to the mall tomorrow on bus or your car; go on foot instead - Your body will thank you.
You are never too old to take a walk, and remember, A Walker Is An Athlete.

Push Ups - Health benefits

In my last post, I talked about the overall benefits we get from regular exercise. Please click here if you missed it.
From here on, I will be going over the individual benefits of different types of exercises. Enjoy!

Health Benefits Of Push Ups

man performing push ups

Push ups are one of the most effective exercises today. When you push up,  you work the chest, back, shoulders, triceps and biceps and several muscles that make up the core.

Although the thought of push ups brings memory of gym class, which may not always be pleasant, tones almost every muscle in our body and increases our endurance.

Why You Should Push Up Regularly

Push up is one of the easiest workouts and doesn't take much time in accomplishing. It can practically be done anywhere.
Keep reading as I give you reasons why you should definitely engage in push ups.

Push Ups Increases Muscle Endurance

Muscle endurance
Muscle endurance

Muscle endurance is the ability to perform a specific amount of work for an extended period of time. To excel in any sporting activity, your muscle endurance must be well above average.  Numerous athletes in sports such as baseball, soccer and rugby rely on muscular endurance for success.

Push ups are one the most effective muscle endurance exercises. When your muscle endurance is pretty high, you will be able to perfom menial tasks with ease, reducing injury risks and lasting longer during exercise programs.According to About.com, enhanced muscle endurance allows a person to be in awkward positions for extended lengths of time, improving sex quality.

Muscle endurance also protect against chronic diseases; When you increase muscle mass, you change your body composition, creating a lower percentage of body fat.

Push Ups Improves Body Posture

Good posture
Push Up And Posture
Most people have poor posture, which generally starts at a young age and only gets worse as we age unless something is done to slow the postural deviations or perform exercisers that will strengthen the areas the are generally weak.
Essentially, push up is an excellent posture exercise.

The movement involved in push ups means that your core muscles are engaged, leading to better overall posture. You can really improve your posture by even just adding a few push ups to your exercise routine and this can make you look taller and even feel more confident. It is important though, that you perform the movements correctly, as otherwise, it could make your posture worse.

Increase Bone Mass With Push Ups

As we age, our bones constantly grow and rebuild. In our early years, bone rebuilding outpaces bone loss, so bones grow larger and denser. Bones grow at the fastest pace during adolescence and reach peak bone mass at around age 20 to 30.

Carolyn Leake was diagnosed with osteoporosis when she was 53. Her bone-density tests showed that her bones were so weak and brittle that her doctor told her that she should stand against a wall to prevent breaking a rib when she coughed or sneezed. She was told she could break a bone if she carried her own groceries or lifted too much wet laundry out of the washer.
Now 67, Carolyn has brought her bone-density level—called a T-score—out of the range of osteoporosis through a combination of bone-strengthening medication, a better diet, and exercise (including some push ups).  [check out Carolyn Leake's full story]

It,s best to perform weight bearing exercise to keep your wrists, elbow, ribs, biceps and triceps strong. I recommend push ups are they are the easiest, safest and one of the most effective.

Push Ups Grows Muscles And Improves Physical Appearance

muscle

Have you ever felt sore after a workout? If yes, What you experienced is known as muscle tear or damage.

When you push up, the downward movement effectively stretches your back muscles and the upward movement enables your biceps obtain total stretch, which often leads to muscle tear... internally.
Don't gasp! Muscle tear is a good thing. Let me explain.

When you muscle tears internally, inflammatory molecules and immune system cells are released to activate satellite cells to jump into action.
Satellite cells acts like stem cells for your muscles. When activated, they help to add more nuclei to the muscle cells and therefore contribute directly to the growth of myofibrils (muscle cells).
These repaired myofibrils increase in thickness and number to create muscle hypertrophy (growth).
And as we all know, people with larger muscles tends to look physically attractive than those with lesser muscles.

Push Up  Reduces Risks Of Shoulder Injury ( Rotatory Cuff Injury)

shoulder workout

The rotatory cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, keeping the head of your upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder. Rotatory cuff injury is one of the ailments that comes with old age, although, it can be caused by other factors too.

To avoid rotatory cuff injury as a young individual or as a painter, carpenter, and baseball or tennis player, it is best you engage in regular push ups, as it stabilizes the muscles which surround the rotatory cuff.

If you are already a victim of rotatory cuff injury, you can still be cured as many people recover by engaging in regular push ups and other physical therapy exercises that improve flexibility and strength of the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint.

Sometimes, rotatory cuff tears may occur as a result of a single injury. In those circumstances, medical care should be provided as soon as possible.

Exercise - 7 reasons why you should exercise daily

5 Benefits Exercising

The health benefits of daily exercises are so significant that they are almost impossible to ignore. Almost anyone can participate in one form of exercise or the other, irrespective of age, sex, or physical ability. To be on track, your exercise routine must be in accordance with your age and overall health and physical ability.

Below I have put together, 5 good reasons why you ought to get off bed, shake laziness off your body and workout.

checkout; health benefits of push-ups

Reduce And Maintain Body Weight/Fat By Exercising

How much you eat has little or nothing to do with how fat or lean you are, as much as you burn more than what you consume. What really matters is how much time you spend doing sports and how much vigorous exercise you do.

To reduce body fat, you must burn more calories than you consume on a regular basis, and guess what, exercise is one of the best ways to burn fat (if not the best). Every 3,500 calories is 1 pound of fat.
Exercise burns fat by creating calorie deficit in a couple of ways. You can burn fat through exercise by undergoing cardiovascular exercises and/or endurance exercises.

Cardiovascular exercises includes walking, running, swimming, jogging etc. Cardiovascular exercises increase heart rate and have a positive effect on your metabolism too. The higher your heart rate, the more calories you will burn because an increase in your heart rate will require your body to work and keep itself cool which will result in calorie burn.

On the other hand,  resistance training exercises like lifting weights or using resistance bands helps to build lean muscle. The development of lean new muscles will increase metabolism as muscles require more calories to support than body fat.

To get the best results, engage in both cardiovascular exercises and endurance exercises.

Exercising Encorages Strong Bones And Builds Muscle Mass

body mass - whygetter
Weight-bearing exercises causes new bone tissues to form, leading to stronger bones. Bones are living tissues. This kind of physical activity also makes muscles stronger. Bones and muscles both become stronger when muscles push and tug against bones during physical activity.

The effects of sarcopenia (normal loss of muscle strength with age) can be reduced by regular weight -bearing exercises. Some examples of weight-bearing physical activities include:

Walking, jogging or running.
Playing tennis, field hockey, soccer, and basketball.
Climbing stairs, dancing, and weight lifting.

Swimming and bicycling are not weight-bearing activities, so they do not directly help build bones. But swimming and bicycling do help build strong muscles, and having strong muscles helps build strong bones. These activities are also good for the heart and for overall health.

Exercise To Reduce Uterine Fiboid

Your weight can increase the risk of you developing uterine fibroid; Making exercises beneficial.
Uterine fibroids are a type of noncancerous tumor that grows in the uterine wall. They can cause heavy bleeding, lower back pain, pain with intercourse or an enlarged lower abdomen.

Overweight women are as much as three times more likely to experience fibroids. This is because fibroids are a result of extra estrogen in the body. Women with excess fat, especially abdominal fat, are more likely to overproduce estrogen.

 Better safe than sorry!

Exercises that help reduce the pain of uterine fibroids are;

  • Bharadvaja's Twist
  • Cardiovascular Exercise; Avoid high-impact Cardiovascular Exercise as this can cause pain to existing fibroids. Stick to low-impact cardiovascular exercises like water aerobics or swimming. Walking, using an elliptical machine or cycling also burn calories and fat, helping to reduce unhealthy estrogen production.
  • The supported bridge pose

Exercise Boosts Energy

It is confusing how exercising that burns up our energy tends to boost energy levels in our body. Weird! I know.
Well, let me explain something.

Mitochondria are tiny power plants, located within our cells, that produce energy. the number of mitochondria you have, which is your ability to produce energy, is affected by your daily activity.

Your body rises up to meet the challenge for more energy by becoming stronger.  In other words,The more you cardiovascular exercise you perform, the more mitochondria the body makes to produce more energy to meet your needs.

Again, Anything that helps us stave off depression and lift our spirits is good for energy. According to a study, exercise causes your brain to turn up production of certain brain chemicals known to have antidepressant effects, boosting energy.

It's as easy as that!

Exercises Affects Your Overall Body Performance

When we exercise, the first thing you notice is that you're out of breath and your pulse is high. This is always a bit disconcerting, but it's perfectly normal. Yhis is your body responding to you working out by raising your heart rate and causing you to breathe heavy.

Exercising improves breathing, posture, improves sex performance, provides a natural high and reduses PMS symptoms.

Exercises also  improves cognitive function and memory, boosts confidence, lowers anxiety, improves mood,Reduces absenteeism, and dementia risk.

Health Benefits Of Meat - Why You Should Eat Meat

Did you  know that the word meat is derived from the old English word mete, which referred to food in general?
Paleontologist evidence suggests that meat constituted a significant proportion of the diet of  the earliest humans (our forefathers), so I see no reason why we shouldn't uphold such healthy tradition.

meat - whygetter

I think it's really sad and unfortunate that people put the blame of new health problems on a food that has been around for thousands of years. Does not really make much sense to me!
For this reason I decided to make this post that does justice to meat and try to return it to it's former glory.

Note; This article does not suggest you eat meat in excess and at all times. It is only saying you should eat meat once in a while. Please be moderate while consuming meat

Why You Should Add Meat To Your Diet

Veganism has gone a long way in convincing people to completely remove meat from their daily diet. Little did they know that they are missing on a lot of vitamins and they tend to suffer from fatigue and confusion.
Need a little convincing? Here are some reasons why you should eat meat;

     We Were Made For This

man eating meat

Yes! As humans, We are genetically programmed to eat meat by nature. The first men, our ancestors, were meat eaters. They ate meat most of the time so it is safe to say that meat is their primary food.
We possess incissors specifically for the purpose of tearing meat. We also have molars for grinding meat.

Cows are natural vegetarians  so they possess a four chamber stomach and the ability to ferment cellulose in order to break down plant material. If we were meant to eat vegetables, nuts, seeds, fish, and fruits alone, our guts will look much like that of a cow's. Think about it!

Eating Both Plants And Animals Improves Our Body Function

meat, bread and vegies

The truth is that humans are omnivores. We function best eating both animals and plants. When we eat one and leave the other, we tend to lack various nutrients that makes our body function at maximum.

Besides, our digestive systems are well equipped to make full use of the fats, proteins and nutrients found in animal foods and lack the ability to ferment cellulose in order to break down plant material.

    Meat Contains Essential Nutrients

roasted meat

There are many nutrients that are specifically found in animals, just like there are nutrients that are specific to plants.

All B vitamins are found in greater concentration in meats than in plant sources, and vitamin B-12 can only be found in animal sources.  Vitamin B12 is particularly important because it can not be gotten from commonly consumed plants and many people who avoid meat lacks it. The B vitamins are critical to health, especially mental health. Deficits in these vitamins can cause confusion, impaired senses, aggression, insomnia, weakness, dementia, and peripheral neuropathy.

While there are many sources of protein, meat is a great source of complete protein, containing all the amino acids our bodies needs, including the ones our bodies can’t produce.

    Meat Proteins Nourishes Our Neurotransmitters
credit; minddisoders.com

Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that the neurons in the brain uses to communicate with other organs of your body, and even your mind.

Research suggests that malfuctioning or deficiency of neurotransmiiters is common in our society and often begets other health conditions. This is so because when communication systems misbehaves, organs tends to misbehave equally and carry out  functions ineffectively.

Vegetarians tends to be more vulnerable to neurotransmitter malfunction as they lack meat proteins that provides all the essential amino acids required by the body.

  Meat And Energy

Meat has proven to have more calories than vegetables and as such, tends to keep us going for a longer period of time. Meat  calories are gotten from protein and fat within the meat. Protein has 4 calories per gram and a lean 3-ounce piece of sirloin steak has 8.2 grams of fat.

Again, meat is one of the best sources of iron. Iron deficits put you at risk for anemia andlow energy, which is why anemia is a chronic problem for vegetarians.

To get the most out of vegetables and meat, I suggest you take both together once in a while as they both go together.
Please share this article to them vegans if you know any as they have got to get back on track and get healthy.
