Push ups are one of the most effective exercises today. When you push up,  you work the chest, back, shoulders, triceps and biceps and several muscles that make up the core.

Although the thought of push ups brings memory of gym class, which may not always be pleasant, tones almost every muscle in our body and increases our endurance.

Why You Should Push Up Regularly

Push up is one of the easiest workouts and doesn't take much time in accomplishing. It can practically be done anywhere.
Keep reading as I give you reasons why you should definitely engage in push ups.

Push Ups Increases Muscle Endurance

Muscle endurance is the ability to perform a specific amount of work for an extended period of time. To excel in any sporting activity, your muscle endurance must be well above average.  Numerous athletes in sports such as baseball, soccer and rugby rely on muscular endurance for success.

Push ups are one the most effective muscle endurance exercises. When your muscle endurance is pretty high, you will be able to perfom menial tasks with ease, reducing injury risks and lasting longer during exercise programs.According to About.com, enhanced muscle endurance allows a person to be in awkward positions for extended lengths of time, improving sex quality.

Muscle endurance also protect against chronic diseases; When you increase muscle mass, you change your body composition, creating a lower percentage of body fat.

Push Ups Improves Body Posture

Push Up And Posture
Most people have poor posture, which generally starts at a young age and only gets worse as we age unless something is done to slow the postural deviations or perform exercisers that will strengthen the areas the are generally weak.
Essentially, push up is an excellent posture exercise.

The movement involved in push ups means that your core muscles are engaged, leading to better overall posture. You can really improve your posture by even just adding a few push ups to your exercise routine and this can make you look taller and even feel more confident. It is important though, that you perform the movements correctly, as otherwise, it could make your posture worse.

Increase Bone Mass With Push Ups

As we age, our bones constantly grow and rebuild. In our early years, bone rebuilding outpaces bone loss, so bones grow larger and denser. Bones grow at the fastest pace during adolescence and reach peak bone mass at around age 20 to 30.

Carolyn Leake was diagnosed with osteoporosis when she was 53. Her bone-density tests showed that her bones were so weak and brittle that her doctor told her that she should stand against a wall to prevent breaking a rib when she coughed or sneezed. She was told she could break a bone if she carried her own groceries or lifted too much wet laundry out of the washer.
Now 67, Carolyn has brought her bone-density level—called a T-score—out of the range of osteoporosis through a combination of bone-strengthening medication, a better diet, and exercise (including some push ups).  [check out Carolyn Leake's full story]

It,s best to perform weight bearing exercise to keep your wrists, elbow, ribs, biceps and triceps strong. I recommend push ups are they are the easiest, safest and one of the most effective.

Push Ups Grows Muscles And Improves Physical Appearance

Have you ever felt sore after a workout? If yes, What you experienced is known as muscle tear or damage.

When you push up, the downward movement effectively stretches your back muscles and the upward movement enables your biceps obtain total stretch, which often leads to muscle tear... internally.
Don't gasp! Muscle tear is a good thing. Let me explain.

When you muscle tears internally, inflammatory molecules and immune system cells are released to activate satellite cells to jump into action.
Satellite cells acts like stem cells for your muscles. When activated, they help to add more nuclei to the muscle cells and therefore contribute directly to the growth of myofibrils (muscle cells).
These repaired myofibrils increase in thickness and number to create muscle hypertrophy (growth).
And as we all know, people with larger muscles tends to look physically attractive than those with lesser muscles.

Push Up  Reduces Risks Of Shoulder Injury ( Rotatory Cuff Injury)

The rotatory cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, keeping the head of your upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder. Rotatory cuff injury is one of the ailments that comes with old age, although, it can be caused by other factors too.

To avoid rotatory cuff injury as a young individual or as a painter, carpenter, and baseball or tennis player, it is best you engage in regular push ups, as it stabilizes the muscles which surround the rotatory cuff.

If you are already a victim of rotatory cuff injury, you can still be cured as many people recover by engaging in regular push ups and other physical therapy exercises that improve flexibility and strength of the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint.

Sometimes, rotatory cuff tears may occur as a result of a single injury. In those circumstances, medical care should be provided as soon as possible.
